Abstract:

The methods usually used by practitioners to assess the financial value of a patent or patent portfolio do not take into account all the roles assigned to it. This article attempts to show how some of these roles could be evaluated by proposing concrete tools for measuring the value procured by access to third-party technologies and by the deterrent effect offered by holding a significant portfolio of patents. However, it also highlights the limitations of these tools, which are linked to the specific nature of these assets.
