Abstract:
Researchers are increasingly interested in how a company can try to impose an industrial standard. The cases studied most often belong to industries linked to electronics. Using historical secondary sources, this article shows that some of the factors highlighted by recent research (alliances, intellectual property rights, announcement effects, etc.) were already present in the case of competition between direct and alternating current at the end of the nineteenth century.
