Abstract:
Although there is growing interest in the combination of IP rights, the majority of research focuses on large companies, and is still often centred on patents. Moreover, there are few multiple case studies. Our research attempts to fill this gap, while proposing a first step towards a conceptual model combining the main approaches mobilized by researchers working in the field of IP rights management. Case studies show the importance of triggering events in structuring SME strategies. They also provide a better understanding of how the construction of these strategies interacts with the company's resource and skill base, which it will seek to adapt in the face of the resource constraints specific to small businesses. Finally, all the companies studied use patents, trademarks and designs, albeit in different proportions, but also other levers, showing the limits of research focusing on these subjects without taking into account a more global system.
